Manifesto

What we are building, and what we refuse.

A mechanical watch is an object built to outlast the person who buys it.

It is close to the only thing we still own with that idea in mind. Everything else gets replaced every three years.

That relationship to time produces a particular kind of person. Someone reading forums at one in the morning to understand a handset difference between two production runs. Someone who keeps the box. Someone who crosses a city to see a piece they will not buy.

These people look for each other. They find each other badly.

The situation

The scene shrank into an image feed

The wrist shot replaced the meeting. It has a merit, it opened watch culture to people who would never have pushed a boutique door. It has a cost, it turned a passion for objects into a contest of ownership.

It also made collectors identifiable, locatable, and therefore vulnerable. We know how that ends.

Meanwhile the real gatherings carry on. They are coordinated in private messages, between people who already know each other. Efficient for them, closed for everyone else.

Our position

A circle, not a network

A network wants to grow. A circle wants to stay good. Those are two different products, and two opposite ways of measuring success.

We measure how many evenings actually happen, and how many people come back for the second one. Not how many accounts were created.

That means turning people away, opening slowly, city by city, and accepting being smaller than a spreadsheet would like.

Commitments

Five things we rule out

01

Displaying what a collection is worth, or letting anyone infer it.

02

Selling or lending the member base to a brand.

03

Making a gathering public to gain visibility.

04

Bending the rules for an influential profile.

05

Belonging to a maison, or depending on one financially.

Where we are

At the beginning, and we say so

Rehaut is not an established platform with thousands of members. We are opening the first gatherings in Paris, in small numbers, with hosts we know.

We will always rather announce something that exists than something that sounds good. You will find no growth figures on this site, no testimonials, no partner logos. The day there are some, they will be real.

Be among the first

The first waves of invitations go out in Paris.
